Although exam subjects vary by graduate schools and admission system, it is mainly a good idea to study foreign languages and the topic you wish to study. It is recommended that students study questions from past entrance exams. These questions are available at the Graduate School Office, please consult us.

Learn about the specialty of the advisor that you wish you have ahead of time, and when you submit your application, please list them as the instructor you would like to have for your oral exam.
You may select any teacher as an advisor as long as they are not on a sabbatical due to studying abroad or other such reasons.
In addition, your advisor may be changed after you are accepted to the university in consideration of the topic of your research at that time.

The requirement to create a research plan and outline is intended to help you stimulate interest on the topics you have researched prior to entering the Kokugakuin University Graduate School.
You will be asked about this research during the oral exam.

There are no procedures prior to enrollment, and there is no system in place to reserve funds. There will be an explanatory meeting during orientation after you have enrolled. Please attend and receive application forms there. Please understand that not everyone who applies shall be selected to receive funding.
If you are selected, funds shall be transferred to you for the first time at the beginning of June.

There is no research student system at Kokugakuin University.
However, there is a “Special Research Student System” for graduates of the Kokugakuin University Graduate School that with to continue their research.

If you wish to audit a class at Kokugakuin University Graduate School, you may apply to be an auditing student at the beginning of March every year. In addition, there are also systems in place for those who want to study single topics (oral exam required), or those from other universities or graduate schools who wish to transfer credits (only available for those in Shinto Studies / Religious Studies or History degree programs). Please see the Graduate School Office for further details.
