Institute for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning
In order to establish an educational system in which our founding spirit is realized, the Institute for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning was inaugurated in April 2009 with the aim of improving the educational capability of Kokugakuin University, supporting research and study related to education in the humanities, and fostering human resources throughout Kokugakuin University and in each faculty department. The Institute consists of the following three centers.

Educational Development Center

The Educational Development Center was established in order to realize education that complies with the founding spirit of Kokugakuin University and to promote improvement of the university’s organizational educative capability. The Center is in charge of work related to educational improvement throughout Kokugakuin University. This includes research/analysis/study of various types of internal and external information required to assist in the education of students; planning/holding training sessions and lectures contributing to improvement of the educational competencies of the teaching staff based on the aforementioned research and analysis; evaluation of lessons; promotion of evaluation of teaching staff in the area of educational activities; improvement of the syllabus and curriculum; and development of teaching materials and educational support systems. The Center also supports activities such as faculty development. Moreover, the Center assists with applications for competitive funds, etc., necessary in pursuing the improvement of education at Kokugakuin University.

Common Educational Center

In order to assist Kokugakuin students in acquiring broad-based human qualities, the Common Educational Center was established for the purpose of further enriching our common education and providing an effective curriculum that is able to respond promptly to the education of human resources as required of the University by society. The Center develops and promotes a new comprehensive humanities curriculum and researches programs such as first-year (introductory) education, remedial education, language communication skill development and teachertraining/qualification courses. Through these tasks, the Center endeavors to enhance the basic academic abilities of Kokugakuin students and enable them to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills they will require as human beings, while also evaluating and examining the results.

Study Support Center

The Study Support Center was established for the purpose of supporting Kokugakuin students with their diverse personalities in their studies and to promote the learning of basic abilities as members of society through university life. The Center mainly researches and analyzes basic academic abilities and the state of study throughout the university, and also plans, conducts and manages various projects necessary to support students in their studies and toward their graduation. These projects include providing support such as assessment of academic ability on admission, remedial education and study-related consultation, as well as competency development as members of society and support for students with disabilities or learning difficulties.
